When I was a kid, we always owned bulldogs (more pit than English). Several of them were working dogs. Dad had a Mack Trucks hood ornament which moved from pickup to pickup over the years. Its eyes lit when the truck’s lights were on. I came across it in his shop sometime after his death in 1966. It’s traveled with me since. It’s occupied shelves and window sills and other places of curiosity over that time.
About 30 years ago, Kitty and I were decorating our first Christmas tree. I was okay for lights and ornaments, but didn’t have a topper for the tree. So, rather than the usual star or angel, Mack took the position. It has been a family tradition since. H e always tops our tree and helps us maintain a tie to our youth and family even when they are not there. He watches over us tonight and every night during the holidays.
I hope you are enjoying every good tie with your family, friends, past and future through these days of good will and positive thinking. Happy holidays to you all!
