To pop music fans, Billy Joe Royal is probably considered a one-hit-wonder for his 1965 hit “Down in the Boondocks.” But, in truth, he had a couple of more hits, and a second life in country music that has lasted many more years. He partnered with Joe South for a couple of minor hits, “I Knew You When,” “Cherry Hill Park” & “Hush.”
He came back with country chart top ten records in the 1980s with, among others, “I’ll Pin a Note to Your Pillow” & “Burned Like a Rocket.” He is still touring smaller venues.
