Rural North Carolina is a beautiful place, or at least it can be.
Few things spoke to yesterday’s farm wife’s sense of beauty art in the yard than the daylily -- long, simple blades of green, topped with a single, rich orange bloom as inviting to the butterfly as the landscaper.
Over the years, they have fled domestication and taken to roadsides all over our flat, sandy terrain. Their vast numbers do not diminish their beauty.
This series of nearly abstract photos is a salute to their wonderful lines which more important than any plane of focus.
