South Wing was a prominent Chapel Hill band in the ‘70s. Some members of the band were friends, and I always enjoyed hearing them play the local clubs -- Town Hall, Cat’s Cradle, and others. They were a jam band playing soaring, Southern rock and Grateful Dead-style wanderings. A few years ago, several members of the original configuration started playing together every month just for fun. One thing led to another until they made their first commercial recording -- “Love Ressurection.”

Last night, they had a party with one of their first public performances in many years. It was great to hear them again and see some old faces. They played for three hours at the ArtCenter in Carrboro.

South Wing’s current members are Scott Verner, guitar & vocals; Ed Ibarguen, guitar; Mike Gallimore, bass; Tim Ragan, vocals; Jay Miller, keyboards & brass; Tim Madigan, percussion; and Brian Murray, drums.
