Mac Rebbenack was born to love and carry New Orleans music to a wider audience. While he embraces American standards, Dr. John carries New Orleans blues in his growl and Professor Longhair influenced piano
Old hippies may remember him from his early identity as Dr. John, The Night Tripper. In those late ‘60s recording, he took the persona of a voodoo priest running highly theatrical roadshow intimating occult ceremonies of the Louisiana swamps.
His blues performances of today are more traditional. These photos come from a blues festival held at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, NC in August of 1994.
