First draft, fragmentary
First draft, fragmentary
I’ve been scanning old negatives, trying to recover not my youth, but images from it. Butterbur is my first dog after leaving home. My sister and mother gave him to me when I was still a student. I lived in my first house without a roommate - One Clark Court, corner of Church Street in Chapel Hill. Here he is stretched out on the front stoop there.
A couple of years ago, Emily (my eldest) moved into an apartment just two blocks south of the the place. Beth (my youngest) is now living in Hinton James, the same place I lived when that dorm opened at UNC in 1967. The wheel turns and we all stand at the axle.
