I guess I went to this August 1993 concert more to see Ziggy Marley than Midnight Oil, even though Ziggy was only the opening act. I was acquainted with the music of Midnight Oil, but had never followed them. That contributed to my being ABSOLUTELY blown away by their performance.
I have never seen a harder working band. Front man Peter Garrett took the entire evening to the edge with his push and power. Always willing to make a political statement when in the band, Garrett left to become become president of the Australian Conservation Foundation before being elected to the Australian House of Representative as a member of the Labor Party in 2004. He is currently Australia’s Minister of School Education, Early Childhood, and Youth.
He’s also one hell of a rousing singer! Photos here.
