The Furthur Festival visited Raleigh in 1996. Bruce Hornsby is famous for his soaring, romping piano and vocal. Fewer fans may know of his stint as a member of the Grateful Dead. He played more than 100 shows with the worlds most famous jam band. He was the band’s full time pianist for some months following the death Brent Mydland in 1990.
The Furthur Festival was Grateful Dead centric bands thumbing their noses at death. Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia died the previous year. Several of the Dead’s spin-off bands and former members were on the bill. Later in this show, Hornsby returned to the stage to play with Ratdog.
