Bath is North Carolina’s oldest town, established in 1705. It is the home of the state’s first public library (1701) and oldest existing church (St. Thomas 1734 const.). Blackbeard frequented the town (some say he lived there). It was the place Edna Ferber researched “Show Boat” in 1925. Today’s population is under 300.
Saturday, I visited Bath with a friend who had recently bought a home there. We were surprised to find they were enjoying a street festival -- BathFest. We made a quick visit before heading back for the real world. I did run into several friends as well as see and hear some interesting things.
