The Furthur Festival visited Raleigh in 1996. The day’s closing act was Bob Weir’s band RatDog. He was joined for part of the performance by Bruce Hornsby, who had appeared earlier in the day.

The Furthur Festival was Grateful Dead centric bands thumbing their noses at death. Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia died the previous year. Several of the Dead’s spin-off bands and former members were on the bill.
