This is my meat and potatoes. As editor of The North Carolina Mason and assistant to the grand secretary, I report to North Carolina Freemasonry’s 45,000 members on the workings and happenings among their Craft. Once each year, we hold a business meeting for representatives from our 370 lodges. It’s when the membership makes decisions on how we will operate and what is important to our fraternity. Freemasonry is the oldest and largest fraternity in the world. Masonic lodges have met in North Carolina since the mid-1700s. Our state grand lodge was formed by an act of the State Legislature in 1787 and has operated continuously since then.
