The grand opening for the Green Square Complex’s museum portion was last weekend -- 24 hours of visitors from around the North Carolina. I waited until Monday lunch to have my first peek. The Nature Research Center is tied to the Museum of Natural History by a over-street connector. There are lots of new exhibits including raptor dinosaur skeleton, a pregnant right whale skeleton, a simulated deep sea dive, and several pieces of science art.
Several science labs are on display with glass walls allowing visitors to view scientists at work in several types of labs. I’m betting this gets to be punishment assignment soon. The Daily Planet is the featured attraction -- a three-story high circular high definition theater inside the planet globe at the front of the building. There are viewing platforms on all three floors of the museum.
The Museum exhibits are only a portion of the complex. Department of Environment and Natural Resources offices are there also. State Parks was packing today to open there on Monday.
